Ashton Bears ARLFC is an amateur rugby league club that has been established for over 25 years (the Open Age teams have been established since 1997 but the club itself beginning with a junior set up in 1987.) We have two Open Age teams and our Junior section consists of seven teams from Cubs through to Under 14’s including Girls; all age groups now play summer rugby running from February to October. In 2010 the Club attained its Club Mark Gold status and has retained it since.
In 2012 the Club received over £70,000 from the RFL as part of its pitch remediation programme. The money will provide much needed drainage for the pitches and allows us to utilise the current pitch design and create 2 full size pitches and one Mini/Mod pitch. We were also successful in our bid for £50,000 from Sport England; this money will see internal and external club house renovations ready for the 2013 season and beyond.
The Open Age operate two teams, the 'First' team play in the North West Mens League Premier Division with the 'A' team playing in Division Four. The Open Age Teams are coached by Bill Ball and Steve Collier, supported by a number of other coaches and volunteers. New players are welcome throughout the season and should contact Bill or Steve for more information or come along to a training session.
The newly revitalised Junior Section of Ashton Bears ARLFC currently has Junior teams at Under 12's, 10's, 9's, 8's and Under 7's, Cubs and Girls.
The Under 12's, 10's, 9's, 8's and 7's play in the North West Counties league North West Counties Juniors . The Girls team (Under 14's) are not currently registered in a league but are keen to play as many festivals, tournaments and friendlies as possible. The Club is welcoming and friendly and welcomes new players who would like to join the club to come down and give rugby a try.
