Injuries take their toll

6-44 vs Methley Warriors

Playing Methley for the 3rd time this year (1 each in victories), it appeared that Bears were still in the changing rooms when Methley quickly took a 12-0 lead, within 5 minutes of the game starting. An early injury to half back Sophie Ratcliffe meant a shuffle around of the personnel with Heather Neil coming on into the centres. Immediately her aggressive line speed helped put the Bears on the front foot, with Lydia May scoring under the sticks to put the score at 6-10. However the theme of the day, daft mistakes in our own half, turned the ball over and Methley pushed to the line. Great defence kept Methley out, only to give 6 again on 5th tackle, and Methley forced their way over in the corner, missing the conversation to go 16-6 in the lead at half time.

Considering the slow start, Bears had ground themselves back into the game, but the second half proved to be an entirely different proposition, with players taking knocks that would mean they could not take part in the game anymore. Unfortunately this meant that forwards could not get the rests that they needed, leaving space to exploit on the Bears left hand side, resulting in 4 tries of almost identical fashion being scored, with Methley adding another 28 unanswered points, to deservedly come out winners in the game. Hopefully the injuries will be short lived and we can gather again for the cup game on the 20th November.
